Switzerland's Künstlerhaus Boswil Festival Names Co-Directors
Julia Fischer and Benjamin Nyffenegger have a long collaborative history as members of the Julia Fischer Quartet
German violinist Julia Fischer and Swiss cellist Benjamin Nyffenegger will succeed Andreas Fleck, who resigned from Switzerland's Boswil Summer Festival in December 2022.
Fischer and Swiss cellist Benjamin Nyffenegger will commence their role from 2024.
The pair will oversee this year's headline event — a concert in celebration of the Künstlerhaus Boswil's 70th anniversary — as well as coordinate smaller festival activities in 2024. They will run the first full summer festival in 2025.
Fischer and Nyffenegger know each other well, having collaborated in the Julia Fischer Quartet (alongside violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky and violist Nils Mönkemeyer) since the group was founded in 2010.
Born in Munich in 1983, Julia Fischer received First Prize at the 1995 Yehudi Menuhin Competition and now performs with many of the world's best orchestras and conductors. Benjamin Nyffenegger grew up in the state of Aargau (where the festival is held) and is presently the assistant solo cellist in Zurich's Tonhalle Orchestra.
"The Boswil Summer Festival stands for an impressive artistic tradition," Fischer and Nyffenegger said. "Andreas Fleck has built up this festival for more than twenty years with a lot of love and passion and we were able to experience the special atmosphere of the Künstlerhaus Boswil at some concerts, including joint concerts."
"It is an honor for us that the beautiful task of artistically directing and continuing the Boswil Summer Festival has been entrusted to us," they continued.
"We are grateful for the future support of the strong and motivated team at the Künstlerhaus and look forward to a successful collaboration. We will make it our task to provide the audience with an impressive and unforgettable concert experience at the Boswil Summer Festival."
