Junior Category Winners Awarded at the Netherlands Violin Competition

 

Held every two years, the Netherlands Violin Competition, in Utrecht, Netherlands, aims to develop young violin talent, via four specific age categories, up to the age of 26.

The competition is open to Dutch citizens only.

12-year-old Sanne Lam was awarded first prize in the Iordens A 10-12 age category. A student of Kerstin Hoelen at the School for Young Talent at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Sanne is a former top prize winner of the Princess Christina Music Competition.

The second and third prizes were awarded to 11-year-old Eline van Dijk and 12-year-old Quinten van Brummen.

The Iordens A 10-12 category was adjudicated by Hans Scheepers, Carla Leurs, Maria-Paula Majoor, Quirine Scheffers, and Hoe Lien.

 

 

 

14-year-old Michelle Kumara was awarded first prize in the Iordens B 13 to 14 age category. A student of Mireille van der Wart at the School for Young Talent of the Royal Conservatoire, she is a former prize winner at the Dutch Violin Competition, Princess Christina Music Competition, and Britten Violin Competition.

The second and third prizes were awarded to 13-year-old Pieter Streefkerk and 14-year-old Djuna Dokter.

The Iordens B 13 to 14 age category was adjusticated by Sylvia van der Grinten, Kerstin Hoelen, Dirk Lievens, Hebe Mensinga, and Hoei Lien.

Hosted every two years by the Stichting Nederlandse Vioolconcoursen, the Iodens A and B category 1st prize winners will reach receive € 1,000.

Previous winners include: Janine Jansen, Liza Ferschtman, Jaap van Zweden,Emmy Verhey, Simone Lamsma, Rosanne Philippens, and Niek Baar.

All rounds of this year's competition were streaming live on The Violin Channel and are available now for playback.

The Final Round of this year's two senior categories, the Davina van Wely (Ages 14-17) and Oskar Back (Ages 18-26) categories will stream live HERE on The Violin Channel this Saturday, January 29, at 6:00 AM (ET).

For the final round of the Davina van Wely category this year each candidate will present the Weinberg 'Concertino' for Violin and String Orchestra with conductor Karel Venhergot and the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra.

For the final round of the Oscar Bach Senior division, each candidate will present a Mozart 'Rondo' with string orchestra plus either the Korngold or Berg Violin Concertos with conductor Bas Wiegers and the Residentie Orchestra.

This year's 1st prize winner in the senior Oskar Back competition will receive € 12,000 — plus a number of important solo engagements.
