League of American Orchestras to Host Leadership Development Program
The organization's ten-day seminar, titled Essentials of Orchestra Management, will enable 35 professionals from the sector to develop their management skills
The League of American Orchestras will host its flagship leadership development program between July 24 and August 2. Run in collaboration with Juilliard Extension, the program is titled Essentials of Orchestra Management and will be held at Juilliard's Lincoln Center Campus.
Essentials of Orchestra Management has been running since 2000, and over 500 participants have been through the program. Focusing on artistic planning and leadership as well as strategic planning, equity, community engagement, and organizational culture, the seminars will provide aspiring orchestral leaders with a range of tools to launch their careers.
This year, 35 orchestra and arts professionals have been chosen from the U.S. and Canada for the 10-day program.
The core faculty includes:
- Seminar Director Scott Faulkner, Principal Bass, Reno Philharmonic Orchestra; Former Executive Director, Reno Chamber Orchestra
- Jennifer Barlament, Executive Director, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
- Alex Laing, Principal Clarinet, The Phoenix Symphony
"These talented professionals are the future of our field — I'm so pleased our brilliant faculty will provide them with a rich in-person experience on the Juilliard campus this year," said League of American Orchestras President and CEO Simon Woods.
"In addition to offering the cohort the opportunity to build life-long professional friendships among their peers, the Essentials curriculum will give them the full perspective on what it takes to run an orchestra. We're honored to uphold the program's rich legacy of developing our future orchestra leaders."
