Leonard Bernstein Biopic "Maestro" to Receive Premiere at the Venice Film Festival
Bradley Cooper stars in the main role, having also directed the film
It has been announced that Maestro, the forthcoming biopic about conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, will receive its premiere at the 80th International Venice Film Festival — which is set to take place between August 30 and September 9, 2023.
The film is directed by Bradley Cooper, who also stars in the title role. A number of other big names are also associated with the Netflix-funded project — for instance, its producers are Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Todd Phillips. British actor Carrie Mulligan will also star as Bernstein's wife, Felicia Montealegre.
The film focuses primarily on Bernstein's marriage, picking up in 1946 when he first encountered Montealegre at a party, and covering the next three decades — during which the couple went through two engagements and had three children together.
Maestro also stars Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor. The film is slated for release on Netflix later in 2023.
