Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra Appoints New Chief Conductor
33-year-old Polish conductor Dawid Runtz will step into the role in 2026
The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra (SOL) has recently announced that the young Polish conductor Dawid Runtz will serve as its new Chief Conductor. He will step into the position permanently in 2026, but has already been engaged to lead a number of 2025 performances, including at the Vaduz Classic Festival and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
Runtz, who is 33 years old, has so far led orchestras including the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Prague Philharmonic, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
He was Principal Conductor of Poland's Royal Opera from 2017 to 2025, and in 2021, he was appointed Chief Conductor of Croatia's Zagreb Philharmonic. With the latter orchestra, he has been recording two albums a year for the NAXOS label as part of a new project to record more Croatian music.
Runtz also recently signed with Sheldon Artists for general management and worldwide exclusive representation.
The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1988 and hosts musicians including Jonas Kaufmann, Lang Lang, Nigel Kennedy, David Garrett, Kian Soltani, Radovan Vlatković, Kit Armstrong, Andrea Bocelli, Rolando Villazón, Maximilian Hornung, and Antje Weithaas.
The orchestra has recorded recent international appearances at the Tonhalle Maag in Zürich, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, and the opera in Strasbourg, as well as upcoming performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2025 and the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in 2026.
"Every encounter with the musicians of the SOL is a source of true musical joy," Runtz said. "It is an honor for me that we will now shape the future of this orchestra together."
