Tune in on August 10 for a program of Bach, Schumann, and Hannah Kendall
Tune in on August 10 for a program of Bach, Schumann, and Hannah Kendall
We're coming to you live from Lincoln Center, in New York, NY, for its Summer for the City series. Conductor Jonathon Heyward leads the Festival Orchestra, with pianist Conrad Tao performing Bach's Keyboard Concerto in A major.
This concert focuses on the transformative power of music for our mental and emotional well-being. The program includes the world premiere of Hannah Kendall’s He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing — which was inspired by scripture from Job:27 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2.
Learn about the ways Schumann relied on the music of Bach for uplift, through Bach's Musical Offering and Keyboard Concerto in A Major, performed by Conrad Tao. Finally, hear the Schumann Symphony itself, with its churning conflicts reflective of Schumann’s mental health challenges.
The concerts are accompanied by panel sessions, presented with the Jameel Arts and Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
