London Philharmonic Orchestra Appoints New Artistic Director
Jesús Herrera will leave Intermusica to step into the role
The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) has announced that Jesús Herrera will serve as its next Artistic Director. He will step into the role in June 2025, following the departure of Elena Dubinets, who is taking up a new role at Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Herrera comes to the position from a background as an agent. He worked as an Artist Manager at Intermusica between 2018 and 2020, and returned there in April 2024 as Associate Director, Creative Partnerships & Projects.
In the intervening four years, he was General Manager and Artistic Director of Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León. There, he oversaw artist residencies, the formation of the OSCyL Youth Orchestra, the launch of a new conducting competition as well as Chamber Music and Recital Series, co-commissions with Los Angeles Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, BBC Radio 3, the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony, as well as tours across Europe and a new long-term partnership with Signum Records.
Herrea studied in Paris and Salzburg, and began his career as a pianist.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jesús Herrera to the London Philharmonic Orchestra as our new Artistic Director," said Catherine Høgel, Chair of the LPO Board, and Mark Vines, LPO President. "Jesús has a global reputation for his innovative artistic approach, dedication to excellence, and forward-thinking vision."
"A dynamic and creative strategist, he embraces collaboration and has a strong track record of forging exciting new partnerships to engage with a wide range of audiences. We look forward to working alongside him as he shapes the future of the LPO, bringing fresh ideas and artistic initiatives to our Orchestra, audiences and communities in the years ahead."
"I am now incredibly excited to join the LPO’s phenomenal group of first-class musicians and staff, and it will be an honor to contribute to the orchestra’s extraordinary legacy," Herrera said.
"I hugely admire the LPO’s artistry and vision, and I truly believe it stands as a model for the twenty-first century orchestra – championing an enormous range of repertoire, fostering innovation, and building meaningful community ties."
