Los Angeles Philharmonic Names New Assistant Conductor and Dudamel Fellows
For the 2023/24 season, Anna Handler, Ross Jamie Collins, Carlos Ágreda, and Michelle Di Russo will hold the Dudamel Fellowship
The Los Angeles Philharmonic has recently appointed its former Dudamel Fellow Rodolfo Barráez as its new Assistant Conductor for the 2023/24 season. In addition, it has also named the four young conductors who will be this season's Dudamel Fellows. They are Anna Handler, Ross Jamie Collins, Carlos Ágreda, and Michelle Di Russo.
Anna Handler recently appeared at the Salzburg Festival as director of the Káťa Kabanová Camp, and Ross Jamie Collins holds the Salonen Fellowship at the Colburn Conservatory of Music as part of its inaugural class of Fellows.
Carlos Ágreda recently made his debut with the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia at the Rheingau Musik Festival in Germany, while Michelle Di Russo recently made her debut with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Di Russo is also presently Associate Conductor with the North Carolina Symphony.
New Assistant Conductor Rodolfo Barráez made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the 2022/23 season, in which he conducted Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. He is the winner of the 2023 Hong Kong International Conducting Competition and received second prize at the 2020 Siemens-Hallé International Conductors Competition.
"It is with deep pride that we welcome the upcoming season’s Dudamel Fellows to Los Angeles, in our 13th year of this program, where we share music and provide mentoring to the next generation of extraordinary artists," said Gustavo Dudamel.
"Watching these young conductors grow during their time with us, and then continue to expand their artistic vision in the years that follow, is one of my greatest joys. Through their talent and hard work, we are helping to build a socially conscious, global music community, and together, we are expanding the very nature of what an orchestra can be."
