Lyon International Chamber Music Competition Names Competitors
Ten ensembles will appear at the competition's live rounds in April 2024
The Lyon International Chamber Music Competition (CIMCL) has completed its pre-selection process, and has named the string quartets who will perform in the competition's live rounds between April 23 and 26, 2024.
22 quartets made it through to the pre-selection round, and of those, 10 have been selected for the main competition.
The ten ensembles are as follows:
- Arete Quartet, Seoul
- Goldberg Quartet, Milan
- Hana Quartet, Münich
- Hesper Quartet, New York
- Horatio Quartet, Montréal
- Ineo Quartet, Vienna
- Modulor Quartet, Zürich
- Mona Quartet, Paris
- Varen Quartet, Paris
- Wassily Quartet, Lyon
The competition's prize pool will total €25,000, as well as a range of career development opportunities — including masterclasses, concert appearances, and attendance at the Villecroze Music Academy.
In 2024, the CIMCL jury will comprise Goran Končar, Kyril Zlotnikov, Luc-Marie Aguera, Marie Chilemme, and Mihaela Martin.
"Organizing a competition means constantly making choices," the CIMCL wrote. "As soon as the program is devised, a jury convenes, the pace of the recitals is set, the venue is chosen... the questions are numerous and thorny!"
"The task of selecting the candidates is painful, as there are so many and every year they are so talented."
