Marcus Bosch Extends Contract at the Heidenheim Opera Festival
Bosch has expanded the festival's scope considerably since his appointment in 2009, and will lead its 60th anniversary celebrations in 2024
The city of Heidenheim, Germany recently announced a contract extension for Marcus Bosch, who is Artistic Director of the Heidenheim Opera Festival. Bosch, who has been in the position since 2009, will now remain there until at least 2030.
The festival, which was founded in 1964, has grown significantly since Bosch was appointed. He oversaw the founding of the festival's Cappella Aquileia orchestra in 2011, and has brought a number of prominent musicians to the festival. Each year, Bosch leads two opera productions, as well as several concerts and open-air productions at the Hellenstein castle.
Bosch has previously held positions at the state theaters of Wiesbaden, Halle, and Saarbrücken. He became Germany’s youngest GMD in Aachen, then served as chief conductor of the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, followed by a position as GMD of the Nuremberg State Philharmonic and the State Theater. Since 2016, he has also been a highly successful pedagogue, leading the conducting class in Munich and the university symphony orchestra.
In 2020, he was appointed chief conductor of the Norddeutschen Philharmonie Rostock.
"It makes me happy and proud to be able to make such outstanding music and musical theater in Heidenheim and to now be able to develop it further," Bosch said. "Working with soloists and creative teams at international festival level, with such wonderful ensembles as the Cappella Aquileia, the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the Czech Philharmonic Choir in Brno – all of this is more than a calling, it is a matter of the heart."
"I am really looking forward to the coming festival years until 2030 and am grateful that our work is being noticed across Europe!"
"It is also thanks to Marcus Bosch that the number of visitors has more than doubled since 2010 and that the Heidenheim Opera Festival is reaching more people in Germany, but also internationally, who enjoy this beautiful art," said Simone Maiwald, the Cultural Mayor of Heidenheim. "I am happy for the Opera Festival and the Cappella Aquiliea and of course for and with Marcus Bosch, who can continue his successful work."
