Midori Warns Audiences About Fake Online Accounts
Online impersonators have been falsely claiming to be the renowned Japanese violinist
Violinist Midori Goto is the latest high-profile musician to be plagued by impersonators online. Her team warned followers that there is currently a spate of fake pages purporting to be "official," and reminded audiences that they should be vigilant about sources of information regarding Midori.
Other violinists who have fallen victim to fake online accounts include Itzhak Perlman and David Garrett.
Midori made her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the invitation of Zubin Mehta when she was just 11 years old. She recently celebrated her 40th anniversary season by releasing a disc of the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet on the Warner Classics label.
Midori is founder of the New York City-based Midori & Friends, the Japan-based MUSIC SHARING, the Orchestra Residencies Program (ORP), and Partners in Performance (PiP).
She has received a number of distinctions, including being made a United Nations Messenger of Peace and being named in the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors. She also holds honorary doctorates from Smith College, Yale University, Longy School of Music, and Shenandoah University.
"We have spotted some unauthorized Facebook pages using Midori's images and messages, or even pretending to be her 'Official Fanpage,'" Midori's staff wrote on Facebook. "This page right here is the one and only official Midori page. Let’s keep enjoying her music, messages, and exclusive photos and videos right here. Thank you for your support."
