22-year-old Yuliia Van and 24-year-old Roman Kholmatov fhave been awarded joint-1st prize at the 2018 Mirecourt International Violin Competition
22-year-old Yuliia Van from Ukraine and 24-year-old Roman Kholmatov from Ukraine have been awarded joint-1st prize at the 2018 Mirecourt International Violin Competition – in Mirecourt, France.
A graduate of the Hannover Hochschule of Musik, where she studied with this year’s competition jury president Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Yuliia is a former prize winner at the Louis Spohr and Tibor Varga International Violin Competitions.
A graduate of the Ukraine Tchaikovsky National Music Academy, where he studied with Sergey Shott, Roman is a former prize winner at the Eugene Ysaye, Oleh Krysa and Jean Ter-Merguerian International Violin Competitions
3rd and 4th prizes were awarded at 17-year-old Claire Wells from the United States - and 17-year-old Iris Scialom from France
Open to international violinists aged 26 years and younger, this year's 1st prize winners will receive €5,000 – plus a number of important performance opportunities.
The 2018 jury comprised: Krzystof Wegrzyn (Chairman), Silvia Marcovici, Harald Herzl, Alissa Margulis, Petru Munteanu, Marianne Piketty and Ulf Wallin.
