7 Semi-Finalists Announced at France's Mirecourt International Violin Competition
The 7 semi-finalists have today been announced at the 2014 Mirecourt International Violin Competition, in Lorraine, France.
They are: Shan-Hsin Chang (21, Taiwan), Tristan Chenevez (22, France), Elena Kyoko Cotrone (25, France/Taiwan), Kana Kawashima (23, Japan), Leon Keuffer (19, Brazil), Nathan Mierdl (15, France/Germany) and Jian Ren (22,China).
For the semi-final round each candidate will present a French contemporary piece composed after 1970, a French Sonata for Violin and Piano, this year's set work: Charles-Valentin Alkan's 'Grand Duo Concertant in F# Minor' - and a virtuosic violin work of their own choice.
This year’s jury is: Pavel Vernikov from Russia (Jury President), Radu Blidar from Romania, Mirianne Piketty from France, Nora Chastinfrom the United States and James Buswell from the United States.
The final will be held on November 16th – with the 1st prize winner to receive 5000 Euro (US $6500).
