New Record Label Launches in Vienna
Supreme Classics aims to fill sections of the market neglected by the major labels, and offers superior sound quality
A brand new independent music label, Supreme Classics, launched in Vienna on February 19, 2025. The label is run by Managing Partner Hardo Gruber, and has just launched its first disc, Italiana! — featuring conductor Riccardo Muti and brass players from the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics.
Gruber says the label was born in response to the larger labels opting to reduce their presence in certain sectors of the classical and jazz markets. An independent label is well placed to fill these gaps, providing agility and a close understanding of what artists most need.
In another contrast to some of the major labels, Supreme Classics will offer close attention to sound quality, particularly on the physical versions of its recordings. "Music deserves the best — in terms of sound as well as in its presentation and appreciation," Gruber said.
"Supreme Classics focuses on quality without compromise: in addition to Dolby Atmos in the digital sector, the hybrid SACD is standard in the physical version — not as a luxury, but as a commitment to audiophile listening experiences."
"The musicians, some of the best in Europe, have brought a new perspective to works that I am accustomed to directing with a complete symphony orchestra," Muti said of the launch disc. "The result is a high quality interpretation that reflects our shared passion for music."
