Composer Mario Lavista — “Diálogos”
American-Mexican violinist Alan Snow and Malaysian pianist Joanne Chang’s recording of Mexican composer Mario Lavista’s “Diálogos”
Pianist Joanne Chang recently talked with The Violin Channel about her new project.
She recently recorded Mexican composer/writer Mario Lavista’s (1943-) composition “Diálogos” (1977), one of the 9 works on her newest album with the same title.
“This is a brilliant four-movement work by Lavista that explores abstract and minimalist elements in music written for the violin and piano," Joanne told The Violin Channel.
“Each movement, alphabetically titled A, B, C, D, features extended techniques required for both instruments, and the composer also indicates that the performer shall perform the movements in any order preferred, which brings a new perspective to the work in every performance.
“The composition’s title, Diálogos, or dialogues, resembles closely to Snow and Chang’s recording as both performers execute the work’s musical intricacies while keeping the dialogue throughout.”
