Composer Pierre Jalbert – Piano Quintet [WORLD PREMIERE]
The Jupiter Quartet with pianist Bernadette Harvey performing the world premiere performance of American composer Pierre Jalbert's Piano Quintet
The University of Illinois-based Jupiter String Quartet with Australian pianist Bernadette Harvey performing the world premiere performance of composer Pierre Jalbert's new Piano Quintet.
"I’ve written 6 string quartets and I’m a pianist myself, so I had always wanted to combine the piano with the string quartet. ... it’s a marvelous sound ..." Pierre has told The Violin Channel.
"The piece ended up consisting of four contrasting movements ... I. Mannheim Rocket (a furioso movement marked with rising scalar figures) ... II. Kyrie (a chant-like, slow movement) ... III. Scherzo (a playful and sometimes intense scherzo-trio) ... and IV. Pulse ( a propulsive rhythmic movement)," the former Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Stoeger Composition Award recipient has said.
"I hope the listeners take with them something of the piece’s rhythmic vitality, its lyrical and tender moments, and its excitement - as if they’ve been on a unique journey with inspiring pathways."
Recorded live on the 19th March, 2017 - at the Leo Rich Theatre in Tucson, Arizona.
