VC Artist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian Conducts the Loris Tjeknavorian Violin Concerto

This concerto is performed here by Swiss violinist Sebasatian Bohren and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra

VC Artist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, who won second prize at the 2015 edition of the Sibelius Competition, has in recent months shifted his focus from the violin towards conducting. In this recording, he directs a violin concerto written by his father — the Iranian-Armenian composer Loris Tjeknavorian.

Born in Iran to Armenian parents in 1937, as a child Loris Tjeknavorian was almost entirely self-taught, and by the time he finished school he was accomplished enough both on the violin and as a composer to enter the Vienna Academy of Music. This concerto, his first work with an opus number, was written during his studies there.

His son, Emmanuel, has made conducting the bulk of his work beginning with the 2022/23 season. In the upcoming 2023/24 season, he will make his debut with a number of prominent orchestras — including the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Rundfunk-Symphony Orchestra Berlin, and the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna
