New York’s Tisch Music Vice President Steps Down

Amy Lam will depart her role at the Manhattan 92nd Street Y program at the end of 2023

The 92nd Street Y, New York, is an internationally connected cultural and community center. In 1990, 92Y’s musical and literary programs were combined under the Tisch Center for the Arts.

Amy Lam was appointed as Tisch Music’s vice president and executive director in 2021, succeeding Hanna Arie-Gaifman, who held the position for 21 years.

Currently, Tisch Music’s senior director of music programming Nicholas Russotto, will assume Lam’s previous executive director role.

During her tenure, Lam welcomed many renowned artists to the Tisch Music’s concert programs, including violinist Joshua Bell, jazz violinist Regina Carter, pianist Peter Dugan, soprano Larisa Martinez, mezzo-soprano J’nai Bridges, and the Catalyst Quartet, among others.

Lam will remain connected to Tisch Music, which will become a client of her consulting practice Lamling Group, where she is the principal.

Lamling Group’s projects have also included guest curation of American Dance Platform for the Joyce Theater, project consulting for New England Conservatory’s 150th anniversary, strategic planning for Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, and contemporary programming for Rockport Music’s inaugural season.

Previously, Lam spent 25 years as artistic director of the non-profit performing arts organization, Celebrity Series of Boston. She is a graduate of Binghamton University School of Management and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

“[My time at Tisch has been] an amazing and exhilarating journey,” Lam said, according to Musical America. “I am beyond proud of what the Tisch team has achieved in the past two years.”

She also explained that the program’s current audience figures exceeded those of pre-pandemic numbers, citing collaborations with other arts groups and interdisciplinary events as major accomplishments. Now, she will maintain residences in both New York and Boston.
