Nordic Chamber Orchestra Appoints New Musical Director

Violinist Malin Broman will step into the role for a three-year contract

The Swedish violinist Malin Broman has been appointed Musical Director of the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, and will begin her initial three-year term in the 2025/26 season. She is the first person to be appointed to an artistic leadership position in the orchestra since Eva Ollikainen's term came to an end in 2021.

An accomplished violinist and conductor, Broman is presently concertmaster of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has spent the past seven years as artistic director of the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra in Finland, where she succeeded the Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo.

Broman studied the violin with Lisbeth Vecchi and Milan Vitek, before winning a scholarship to study with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

She has appeared in a player/director role with the Tapiola Sinfonietta, Scottish Ensemble, Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Soloists, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, and ACO Collective (Australia).
