Norway’s Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition Names 2023 Participants

For its 12th edition, the competition will see nine piano trios compete across September 26–30, 2023

Created in 2000, the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (TICC) is held every second year, alternately for emerging string quartets and piano trios from all over the world. 

The TICC 2023 participants are the Albéniz Trio, Amelio Trio, Holm Trio, Paddington Trio, Rilian Trio, Trio Castus, Trio Incendio, Trio Luminescense, and Trio Tokava.

These piano trios will compete for the €15,000 top prize. Second prize will include €10,000, while third prize will be €5,000. Alongside the cash awards, the ensembles will all receive performance opportunities and masterclasses.

Additionally, the first-prize winner and the winner of the audience prize will receive several concert engagements throughout 2024.

For the competition, the groups must perform five works from a set repertoire list of trios by Brahms, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, and Schubert, including a newly commissioned work by a Norwegian composer — the best performance of which will receive the Kim Trio commission prize. 

Chaired by Anthony Marwood, the jury comprises Anja Lechner, Arisa Fujita, Berit Cardas, Christian Ihle Hadland, Daniel Müller-Schott, and Stefan Mendl.

Founded in 1996, the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival hosts the Trondheim International Chamber Music Academy — in addition to the competition — for advanced student ensembles and young professional ensembles. Both events are held in tandem with the Festival, alternating each year.
