Oberlin Conservatory Names Distinguished Artists in Residence
String players Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson will join the school in April 2025 for performances and masterclasses
Violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson will be joining Ohio’s Oberlin Conservatory of Music as Distinguished Artists in Residence this April for a week of concerts and coachings.
They will begin their residency with a concert on April 2, 2025, in Oberlin’s Warner Concert Hall, which will include a collaboration with Conservatory faculty.
More activities will include spending the week with Oberlin Conservatory students in masterclasses on April 8, chamber music tutorials, and private lessons.
A married pair, Laredo and Robinson spent decades touring with the late pianist Joseph Kalichstein as the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio. Currently, the couple is on tour with their piano quartet ESPRESSIVO!
“I’m delighted to welcome Sharon Robinson and Jaime Laredo to Oberlin Conservatory this spring,” said Dean William Quillen in a press release. “Sharon and Jamie are among the most important chamber musicians of our time, and our students will benefit tremendously from the opportunity to work with and learn from their decades of experience as global performers and dedicated coaches.”
“It’s a two-way street, these lessons and coachings,” Robinson added. “I’ve gotten an awful lot of great ideas from my students along the way, and it’s always great to see things from a new perspective … The fine art of collaboration and fine art of chamber music is really the highest calling in our books. So, if we can open pathways for people, that would be really wonderful.”
Founded in 1865, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music offers more than 500 performances annually, many of which are free and open to the public. Its noted alumni include Pulitzer Prize-winning composers, GRAMMY Award-winning musicians, and music industry leaders.
