Oboist Peter Davies Appointed to Metropolitan Opera Orchestra
Davies has previously appeared with the Chicago Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra
American oboist Peter Davies has been appointed as principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, just one week after he completed a master's degree at The Juilliard School. At the Met, he will join an oboe section that also comprises John Upton and Pedro R. Díaz.
Hailing originally from Dallas, Texas, Davies was a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute Festival Orchestra and appeared at the Round Top Festival Hill Institute. He also appeared with the National Youth Orchestra USA, undertaking international tours with the ensemble.
Prior to his time at Juilliard, Davies studied with Richard Killmer at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. His other teachers have included Nathan Hughes and Erin Hannigan.
He has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra, as well as the National Repertory Orchestra.
"Congratulations to Peter Davies (MM ’25, oboe)!" wrote The Juilliard School on social media. "Just one week after graduating, he’s been named Principal Oboe of the MET Orchestra. He joins fellow Juilliard alum John Upton (MM ’14, oboe), creating an all-Juilliard principal oboe section at the MET. They're also joined by Alex Bickard (Pre-College ’13, BM ’17, MM ’19, double bass), recent audition winner and Juilliard alum. Way to represent!"
