Opéra de Montréal Names New General Director

Jean-Pierre Primiani will step into the role, having previously been the company's Chief Philanthropy Officer

The Board of Directors of the Opéra de Montréal has announced that Jean-Pierre Primiani will serve as the company's new General Director, following the resignation of Patrick Corrigan. He will step into the role on November 1, 2025.

Primiani was elected unanimously, and the company noted that they have been preparing this transition for several years, focusing on prioritizing internal candidates.

Presently serving as the company's Chief Philanthropy Officer, Primiani began his tenure with the Opéra de Montréal in 2011. He spent three seasons working in individual philanthropy at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, before returning to the company.

During his time at the Opéra de Montréal, Primiani has made significant increases to the company's contributed revenue and established the company as an industry leader.

Primiani is a graduate of McGill University, and before his career as an arts executive, he amassed significant freelance experience as a stage manager and director, organist, accordionist, and choral conductor.

"Jean-Pierre embodies the values and vision of the Opéra de Montréal," said René Branchaud, Chair of the Board. "We are deeply grateful to Patrick Corrigan for the exceptional leadership he has provided over the past decade, positioning the company for continued success. Jean-Pierre’s longstanding commitment, strategic acumen, and deep relationships within the arts community make him uniquely suited to take the reins."

"This appointment reflects the strength of our governance and our belief in nurturing leaders from within. We are thrilled for what lies ahead."

"It is with profound gratitude and great excitement that I accept this opportunity," Primiani said. "The Opéra de Montréal holds a vital place in the heart of our city and I look forward to amplifying its impact, with the exceptional support of our community. I am honored to guide its next chapter with our extraordinary team, artists, and audiences."
