Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés Appoints New Music Director
The Spanish conductor Andrés Salado will step into the role in September 2025 for an initial term of two years
Spain's Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés (OSV) recently announced that conductor Andrés Salado has been appointed as its new Music Director for an initial term of two years. Salado will step into the role on September 1, 2025, and he succeeds Xavier Puig — who has held the post since 2018.
Hailing originally from Madrid, Salado learned piano, violin, and baroque flute before studying percussion at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. Later, he began to specialize in conducting, and his teachers have included Miguel Romea, Peter Rundell, Jorma Panula, Sandro Gorli, Peter Gülke, Peter Eötvös, and Antoni Ros Marbà.
Salado has conducted most of the main Spanish orchestras, as well as the youth orchestras of Galicia, Seville, Comunidad de Madrid, JONDE, and the Orquesta Joven de Extremadura, of which he is Principal Conductor and Artistic Director.
He was also recently appointed to a post with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.
Outgoing Music Director Xavier Puig will become the OSV's Resident Conductor, a new position which has been created specifically for him. Puig will continue to develop some of the projects that he has initiated with the orchestra in recent years, and will continue to work with his other ensembles, Orfeó Català and the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana.
