Avie Records has announced the release of the UK-based Briggs Piano Trio's new album: Gál and Shostakovich.
Featuring violinist David Juritz, pianist Sarah Beth Briggs and cellist Kenneth Woods, the disc features Austrian-British composer Hans Gál's Piano Trio in E Major and Variations on a Heurigen Melody - and Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 in E Minor.
"Cellist and conductor Kenneth Woods and I have a passion for and a great fascination in Hans Gál's music ... joined here by the brilliant violinist, David Juritz in the newly formed Briggs Piano Trio, we wanted to compare and contrast two great pieces of Twentieth Century chamber music ..." Sarah has told The Violin Channel.
"Gál's Trio abounds with lyricism and feels almost late romantic with a modern twist - while Shostakovich's is anguished and gritty ..." she has said.
