Paddington Trio Named as Recipients of the 2023 Parkhouse Award

The London-based ensemble will receive several prestigious concert engagements, as well as support and promotion over a two-year period

Established in 1991, the Parkhouse Award is in memory of the pianist David Parkhouse and is made on a biennial basis to a chamber ensemble made up of piano and strings.

As part of its prize package, the award offers three concerts in prestigious venues, as well as other engagements over a two-year period. As the winner, the Paddington Trio will also receive support with communications and social media and will be introduced to a range of important promoters.

The final of the competition saw four ensembles perform works by Brahms and George Walker in London's Wigmore Hall. The other finalists were the Albéniz Trio (Spain), the Chloé Piano Trio (UK), and the Soleri Trio (Germany).

The jury comprised Chris de Souza (chair), Emma Bloxham, Levon Chilingirian, Robert Cohen, and Kathron Sturrock.

Formed in London in 2020, the Paddington Trio is made up of Finnish violinist Tuulia Hero, Irish cellist Patrick Moriarty, and American pianist Stephanie Tang. All three are graduates of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where they are presently completing an Artist Fellowship Program.

The trio was the winner of the 70th Royal Over-Seas League Competition for Strings and Piano Ensemble, and also took out First Prize at the Clara Schumann International Competition. Firmly committed to new music and innovative programming, they also won first prize at the NEW FORMATS Project Prize 2022 in Graz, Austria.
