The quartet will work with closely with the school's students, holding regular lessons, masterclasses, and rehearsals
The Parker Quartet — which is comprised of Daniel Chong and Ken Hamao (violins), Jessica Bodner (viola), and Kee-Hyun Kim (cello) — has been appointed as the new Quartet-in-Residence at Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts.
As part of their residency, the quartet will perform at concerts alongside student musicians, lead the school's string orchestra from its principal chairs, and run sessions that introduce students to concepts of rehearsal technique, score study, and professional etiquette. They will also provide monthly masterclasses and perform works written by student composers.
The Parker Quartet was founded in Boston, and are the winners of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the 2005 Bordeaux Competition, and Chamber Music America’s prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award. The group presently also holds a residency in Harvard's Department of Music and is on faculty at the Banff Centre's Evolution: Quartet program.
"Inviting a world-renowned ensemble like the Parker Quartet to Walnut Hill is absolutely a thrill," said Eric Barber, the Head of School. "This is a testament to the exceptional artistry of our music students as we celebrate 50 years this year as a global leader in the arts."
"I am so excited to be returning to Walnut Hill with my quartet for this important chamber music residency at my alma mater," said Kee-Hyun Kim. "We look forward to engaging with these talented and precocious minds, working with the amazing faculty, and being immersed in this truly unique and uplifting environment."
