Australian violist Paul Leggett has died in a tragic swimming accident – aged just 48.
Local media reports have suggested the musician was swimming in a creek near Alice Springs when he suffered a cramp and disappeared under the water.
He had previously served positions with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Adelaide Symphony and the Melbourne Opera Orchestra.
“Today we have lost a good person who just wanted every child to have the chance to share his love of music…Rest in peace Paul Leggett – your never ending enthusiasm will be missed by many… “, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic has posted on their social media.
Our condolences are with Paul’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
