Pennsylvania's York Symphony Orchestra Names New Executive Director
Trombonist and arts administrator Andrew Wise will step into the role in May 2023
A York, Pennsylvania native, Anthony Wise returned to his hometown in 2021 to take up a role as the York Symphony Orchestra's (YSO) Concert Operations and Personnel Manager. He will step into the Executive Director position on May 7, 2023.
Originally a trombonist, Wise studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, graduating in 2002. He then embarked on a career as an orchestral player, performing with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the San Antonio Orchestra over a twenty-year period.
Prior to his position at the YSO, Wise also founded and managed the Austin Summer Brass Academy, an annual workshop aimed at middle and high school students, in Texas.
Founded in 1933, the York Symphony Orchestra presents six Classical Series concerts, three Pops Series concerts, and two Young Person Concerts each season. The orchestra also runs a substantial outreach program, which regularly reaches more than 15,000 students across 40 different schools.
"Anthony will bring a fresh perspective to orchestra management as well as promoting music education," said Betsy Keefer, the President of the YSO Board. "He is well respected and an excellent problem solver with a get-it-done personality."
