Philharmonic Society of Arlington Hires New Vocal Music Director
Conductor Stephanie Beatrice will assume the role as of September 2024
The Philharmonic Society of Arlington (PSA) in Massachusetts has announced Stephanie Beatrice as the new Music Director for the Arlington Belmont Chorale and Chamber Chorus beginning in September 2024.
She will succeed Barry Singer, who is leaving the role after 30 years, and will be spending time as musical director in music theater, alongside directing other musical groups.
Beatrice currently serves as Music Director of the opera company, the Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, and of Boston’s Calliope. Recently, she completed one season with the Sudbury Savoyards theater group.
She earned her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory, plus attended the University of Maine, where she studied Music Education. Currently, Beatrice is studying Orchestral Conducting at The Juilliard School’s Extension Division.
“The PSA eagerly anticipates the coming season under Stephanie’s baton,” the organization wrote on its website. “Welcome, Stephanie!”
According to Peter Haffenreffer, co-chair of PSA’s search committee, the ensemble’s rehearsal schedule will begin on September 9 at Arlington’s Park Avenue Congregational Church, as reported in yourArlington.
Founded as a community symphony orchestra in 1933, the PSA presented its first concert the following year. In 1973, the Arlington Philharmonic Chorus merged with the Belmont Chorus to form the Arlington-Belmont Chorale. The PSA presents around nine concerts annually through its three performing groups: The Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arlington-Belmont Chorale, and the Arlington-Belmont Chamber Chorus.
