Pianist and Composer Hayato Sumino Signs with Sheldon Artists
Sumino, who performs under the pseudonym Cateen, will receive exclusive North American representation
The Japanese pianist and composer has joined the roster of Sheldon Artists, where he will be represented by Jon Wintringham. Sumino will receive exclusive representation in North America from the company, which was founded by R. Douglas Sheldon.
In the 2024/25 season, Sumino will undertake an 11-concert tour as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26 (“Coronation”) with Marin Alsop and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. He will follow this with debuts at some of Europe’s best concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, Tonhalle Zürich, Munich Prinzregententheater, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and the Liederhalle Stuttgart.
He is well-known for his YouTube channel, where he performs under the pseudonym Cateen. The channel has 1.3 subscribers and 180 million views, and this success opened the door to top-level concert hall performances.
Sumino is also an exclusive Sony Classical recording artist, an Artist Ambassador for Apple Music Classical, a Steinway Artist, and a CASIO Ambassador. In 2022, he recorded his debut album Hayatosm, which features music by Chopin and Liszt — as well as his own compositions.
In 2023, Sumino was featured on Forbes Japan’s “30 under 30” list, which recognizes young entrepreneurs, leaders, and trailblazers who engage with business and industry in innovative ways.
"[It is] an honor to represent pianist and composer Hayato Sumino (Cateen)," wrote Wintringham. "Those of us concerned with shaping the arts should take notes…he’s connecting audiences with classical music in the most inspiring ways. He’s playing Chopin with the Chicago Symphony, film music with Joe Hisaishi, then turning around and jamming at Blue Note. Absolutely brilliant, which means he’s right at home with our artists!"
