Pianist Yeol Eum Son's New Album, "Love Music"
Released on Naïve Records, the new album features works by Waxman, Korngold, Kreisler, Strauss, and Wagner performed alongside violinist Svetlin Roussev
German-based South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son has released her second album, Love Music following her debut album Mozart’s Complete Piano Sonatas.
Released on Naïve Records, the new album features works by Waxman, Korngold, Kreisler, Strauss, and Wagner performed alongside violinist Svetlin Roussev, a professor at Haute École de Musique in Geneva.
The album presents Waxman’s Tristan and Isolde: Love Music, Korngold’s Mariettas liedzur laute aus der oper Die Tote Stadt and 4 pieces from Much Ado about Nothing, Kreisler’s Alt-wiener Tanzweisen, Strauss’ Violin Sonata Op. 18, and Wagner’s Wesendonck-lieder No. 5.
Waxman's Love Music for violin and piano is based on themes from Wagner's opera, Tristan and Isolde, particularly the love duet in Act II. Completed in 1947, the music was used for the soundtrack of the Warner Bros. motion picture Humoresque (with John Garfield as a struggling violinist, Oscar Levant as his friend and pianist, and Joan Crawford as Garfield’s ill-fated lover). Yeol Eum's new album takes after this work's title, Love Music.
