Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Appoints New Concertmaster

Violinist David McCarroll will step into the role, after he received the unanimous vote of the PSO's Concertmaster Committee

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and Music Director Manfred Honeck announced that violinist David McCarroll has been appointed to the role of Concertmaster, beginning with the 2022/23 season.

Born in Santa Rosa, California, David McCarroll studied with Simon Fischer at the Yehudi Menuhin School, with Miriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory of Music, and with Antje Weithaas at Berlin's Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler".

Performing as both a soloist and a chamber musician, McCarroll has recently performed Stravinsky's Violin Concerto at the Konzerthaus Berlin, as well as György Kurtág’s Kafka Fragments for violin and soprano. He is a member of the Vienna Piano Trio and was a silver medalist at the Klein International Competition.
