Prague Conservatory Appoints New Director

Dr. Veronika Höslová will become the school’s first female director in its over 200-year history

Founded in 1808, the Prague Conservatory in the Czech Republic has been under the provisional leadership of Dr. Veronika Höslová since August 1, 2024, as the statutory deputy director.

Recently, Höslová was unanimously selected out of a record 14 applicants for the role of director. She will succeed Petr Čech, whose six-year term concluded on July 31, 2024.

Comprising representatives of the Prague City Hall, the selection committee also included the Czech School Inspectorate and the conservatory itself.

Höslová will now be the first woman in history to lead the Prague Conservatory, whose past directors included Antonín Dvořák, Josef Suk, Vítězslav Novák, J.B. Foerster, Vilém Kurz, and Jaroslav Kocian.

As a vocal consultant and singer, she is also a faculty member of the Prague Conservatory in the Department of Professional Theory, where she teaches the subject of intonation.
