Prizes awarded at the 2022 Prizes Awarded at J.M. Sperger International Bass Competition
This year's edition of the International J.M. Sperger Competition for Double Bass took place at the Rostock University of Music and Drama in Rostock, Germany from March 27 to April 3, 2022.
Double bassists of all nationalities were eligible to enter, as long as they were born after January 1, 1987.
The prizes are as follows:
1st Prize: David Santos Luque (Spain)
2nd Prize: José Trigo (Portugal)
3rd Prize: Moritz Tunn (Germany)
4th Prize: Igor Šajatovič (Croatia)
The audience prize was given to José Trigo, while the prize for the best interpretation of the contemporary compulsory piece was awarded to David Santos Luque.
David Santos Luque received a cash prize of € 8,500, donated by the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation Hamburg,
The jury included Michinori Bunya, Enrico Fagone, Piotr Szumieł, Chi-Chi Nwanoku, David Sinclair, and Gunars Upatnieks.
Previous prize winners include Andreas Ehelebe, Marek Romanowski, and Marvin Wagner.
2020's competition was held virtually as a "Quarantine Challenge" and multiple prize categories.
