NEW MUSIC TUESDAY | Qigang Chen - 'Reflections of a Vanished Time' US Premiere [2017]
French cello virtuoso Gautier Capuçon performing the US-premiere performance of Chinese composer Qigang Chen’s ‘Reflections of a Vanished Time' for solo cello and orchestra.
Recorded live on November 1st, 2017 at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia - with conductor Lü Jia and the China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra.
“The work is based on variations of the famous Chinese guqin ‘Plum Blossom’ song and was written to reflect my nostalgia for those good, innocent times in my past … surrounded by nature and tranquility,” the composer has said.
“My hope is all audiences will be able to identify with these experiences … thinking back to their own endless wonder of childhood, love and life, emerged in nature,” he has said.
