NEW MUSIC TUESDAY | Rachmaninoff - 'Rhapsody On a Theme of Paganini' for Solo Violin & Piano [NEW-ARRANGEMENT]
Violinist Joo Young Oh and pianist Carlos Avila performing their own arrangement of Rachmaninoff's 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini'
Violinist Joo Young Oh and pianist Carlos Avila performing their own original arrangement for solo violin and piano of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
Originally composed by Rachmaninoff in 1934 for solo piano and symphony orchestra - to closely resemble a single movement piano concerto.
“I grew up on Paganini’s 24th Caprice and have done many improvisations and variations on it in my own time … and since joining the New York Philharmonic I’ve come to love the ‘Rach Pag' (as pianists call it), so I thought …. why not? … we can do this!“ Joo Young has told The Violin Channel.
“We both hope that this encourages young musicians to try out ideas ... no matter how crazy they might seem,“ Carlos, a Juilliard School staff pianist, has said.
Recorded live at the Sejong Chamber Hall, in Seoul - in August, 2016.
