Maurice Ravel's 'Tzigane' Premiered in 1924

The first performance was given by Hungarian virtuoso Jelly d'Arányi, in London, with Henri Gil-Marchex at the piano

 

French composer Maurice Ravel’s showpiece Tzigane premiered on this day in 1924.

The name is derived from the European term for 'gypsy'.
