Residentie Orkest The Hague Names New Chief Conductor Designate

Anja Bihlmaier will succeed Nicolas Collon, beginning the role in August of 2021


Bihlmaier will be conducting a minimum of eight weeks a season for an initial period of three years. This position coincides with the opening of the Residentie Orkest's new hall this September.

She joins the orchestra's artistic team of Jun Märkl and Richard Egarr.

Bihlmaier will continue as principal guest conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in addition to this new role.

A graduate of Freiburg Conservatory of Music and Salzburg Mozarteum, she held previous positions at Staatsoper Hannover, Theater Chemnitz, and Staatstheater Kassel.

She has guest conducted the Deutches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Deutsche Radio Phiharmonie Saarbrücken, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
