Reuning & Son Violins & A Far Cry’s Concert to Feature $100 Million Instrument Vault

The reprised event, titled "Stradivari Serenade," will be streamed on The VIolin Channel on April 2, 2024

A Far Cry (AFC) recently announced a reprise of one of the most popular events in the organization’s history, "Stradivari Serenade," at New England Conservatory, in Boston.

In partnership with Boston-based Reuning & Son Violins, the orchestra will present a unique concert experience featuring 18 musicians on 18 of the finest instruments in the world crafted by StradivariGuarneri, and Amati.

All the instruments will be hand-selected from Christopher Reuning & Son Violins' vault, valued at over $100 million.

The program includes what has become a signature piece for A Far Cry – Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings — plus works by Bach, Janáček, and a traditional dance from Veracruz arranged by AFC violinist Alex Fortes.

Reuning & Son’s owner Christopher Reuning, with host Terrance McKnight (WQXR), will also present an insightful instrument showcase with help from A Far Cry players.

Christopher Reuning will discuss the rich legacy of these revered instruments, from famous artists who played them to spectacular heists that shocked the music community. In addition to the evening’s string orchestra selections, the AFC members will perform solo and small ensemble demonstrations, illuminating how to listen, re-creating music from the era, and showcasing what exactly makes these instruments priceless.

Happening live on March 29, 8 PM at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall, tickets are available here.

"Our first Stradivari Serenade event left such an indelible memory for me and I am excited to relive and share the sonic beauty of these masterpieces with a new audience," Christopher Reuning told The Violin Channel. "The combination of these instruments in the hands of the wonderful A Far Cry musicians in the gorgeous acoustic of Jordan Hall promises to be a very special event once again."

For audiences outside of Boston, The Violin Channel will be streaming the concert on April 2 at 6 PM (ET).
