Reuning & Son Violins Appoints Humberto Nicasio as Bow-Maker and Restorer
Nicasio is a specialist in both modern and baroque bows
Reuning & Son Violin, in Ithaca, New York, has announced that the Mexican bow-maker and restorer Humberto Nicasio has joined its team. Nicasio will offer same-day and next-day rehairs, as well as customized bow repairs for violin, viola, and cello bows.
A graduate of the Violin Making School of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Queretaro, Mexico, Nicasio has also studied bow-making in Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United States. During his studies, Nicasio developed a particular interest in baroque bows, inspired by Marie-Eve Geeraert.
He has also attended the Violin Society of America’s summer programs at Oberlin College and Learning Trade Secrets, focusing on modern bow making and restoration. In these programs, he has received instruction from David Forbes, Jerry Passewicz, Matt Wehling, Peter Oxley, Rodney Mohr, and David Orlin.
A cellist and viola da gamba player, Nicasio also studied historically informed performance at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics Engineering from the same institution.
Since 2023, Nicasio has been furthering his career in Boston.
"I'm incredibly happy and excited to be joining Reuning & Son Violins," Nicasio said. "As a bow maker and restorer, I can't imagine a better place to pursue my passion. It's inspiring to be surrounded by such beautiful instruments and bows and to work with such great coworkers."
"What I'm most looking forward to in my new role is helping musicians keep their bows in the best possible condition, both functionally and aesthetically, always with a conservation approach that respects their original state as much as possible."
"We are so thrilled to have Humberto join our long term bow maker Eric Lane and the rest of our restoration staff," said Christopher Reuning. "Humberto is a careful, thoughtful, and experienced bow maker who is capable of restoring and servicing our clients' bows as well as the fine bows that we sell. Additionally, Humberto brings a wonderful collaborative and congenial spirit which fits so well with the Reuning & Son team."
