Royal Philharmonic Society Announces Awards Shortlist for 2023
The annual awards evening will be held on Wednesday, March 1, at London's Southbank Centre
The UK's Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) released the shortlists in each category for its 2023 awards, which will be held next month. There are twelve shortlists, which range in scope from specific categories such as Instrumentalist to broader categories such as Impact or Inspiration.
The finalists for Instrumentalist of the Year are Abel Selaocoe (cello), Adam Walker (flute), and Elena Urioste (violin).
In the Conductor category, the nominees are Karina Canellakis, Martyn Brabbins, and Robert Ames.
The composers shortlisted for Large-Scale Composition are Gavin Higgins, George Lewis, Joe Cutler, and Rebecca Saunders.
The ceremony has been slightly re-designed for 2023: it will now be held in association with BBC Radio 3 in Queen Elizabeth Hall at London's Southbank Centre. The larger hall allows for much-reduced ticket prices, and these now start at £10 each.
Some of the nominees for awards will give live performances, including recent RPS Award winner and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
