Rutgers University Appoints New Assistant Professor of Violin

The Canadian-American violinist Christina Bouey will assume the role in September 2025

Currently the concertmaster of the Albany Symphony, Christina Bouey will be joining the faculty of Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, in New Jersey, as Assistant Professor of Violin (tenure-track) from September 1, 2025.

She will succeed Arnold Steinhardt, the first violinist and founding member of the Guarneri Quartet. Both Steinhardt and Bouey perform on violins crafted by Lorenzo Storioni.

Bouey is also the concertmaster of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and has played solo with the Greenwich Symphony, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Salina Symphony, and more. Additionally, she is an Assistant Professor of Violin at Ithaca College

In 2015, she founded and became a member of the award-winning Ulysses String Quartet, which holds the Quartet-In-Residence position at the WGBH radio station and served as the Lisa Arnhold Fellows at The Juilliard School

Bouey is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and Boston Conservatory, where she studied with Glenn Dicterow, Lisa Kim, Laurie Smukler, Nicholas Mann, and Irina Muresanu.

She recently made her concerto debut at Carnegie Hall after winning first prize at the Waldo Mayo Violin Competition. Further achievements include top prizes at the Vietnam International Chamber Competition, Schoenfeld International String Competition, Fischoff Competition, and the Osaka International Chamber Competition.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Mason Gross School of the Arts and excited to help guide the next generation of musicians,” Bouey said. “While I have had three fulfilling years at Ithaca College, this position at Rutgers is a dream come true. It is an honor to be part of such a dynamic faculty and I look forward to contributing to the school’s legacy.”
