British composer Sir John Tavener has passed away – aged 69

His signature works include the cantata 'The Whale', 'The Protecting Veil' for Cello and Strings, and 'Song for Athene' – a 4 part a cappella religious work performed at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales

Whilst the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, Sir John had suffered from ill health for much of his adult life
