Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra Names New Executive Director
Having previously served on the board, Andrew Krus will step into the role in August 2023
Following a national search, the Board of Directors at the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) has appointed Andrew Krus as the orchestra's new Executive Director.
Krus is already known to the SYSO community, having served as a member of the board between 2018 and 2020. During this period Krus aided the integration of the Seattle Conservatory of Music with the SYSO.
He comes to the Executive Director role from a 17-year tenure as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts at Seattle's Lakeside School. During his time there, he established an award-winning orchestral program, managed the renovation of two theaters, and completed two strategic planning processes.
Krus holds undergraduate degrees in music and in economics. He also received a master's degree in conducting from Ithaca College, where he served as a graduate assistant.
"I am thrilled to join SYSO and to work alongside the exceptional team and board to support the mission of transforming lives through music," said Krus. "With its commitment to accessibility and education, SYSO is uniquely positioned to contribute to the Seattle arts community – I can't think of a better time to join the team than heading into the 2023 season, and I look forward to deepening my connections with the SYSO community."
"I am excited to work closely with Andrew, a seasoned musician and educator, in leading SYSO — not only to meet the high standards of education for which SYSO is known, but to evolve and share SYSO’s mission with more students and families throughout our community," said Juan Felipe Molano, SYSO's Music Director.
"Andrew’s success as a musical leader gives me confidence that he will be a strong advocate whose vision and values will help SYSO build even more meaningful connections throughout our region."
