Grammy Award-winning, Japanese-Norwegian violist Masumi Per Rostad is an active performer and professor of viola and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music. As a former member of the Pacifica Quartet for almost two decades, he also founded DoCha, a chamber music festival in Champaign, Illinois.
Amidst his busy schedule, Masumi sits down with his friends and colleagues to discuss the ins and outs of their instruments in his Sound Post series.

A graduate of Yale School of Music and Northwestern University, James Austin Smith is an artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and Decoda, co-principal oboist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Artistic and Executive Director of Tertulia, a chamber music series that takes place in restaurants in New York and San Francisco. He is a member of the oboe and chamber music faculties of Stony Brook University and the Manhattan School of Music.
