Dmitri Shostakovich’s 2nd Cello Concerto Op. 126 premiered on this day in 1966.

The first performance was given in Moscow at the composer's 60th birthday concert by soloist Mstislav Rostropovich – under the baton of Maestro Yevgeny Svetlanov.
