Spanish Conductor Pablo González Signs With Maestro Arts
The winner of the Donatella Flick and Cadaqués competitions, González will be represented by Jordi Martín Mont and Callum Langford
The Spanish conductor Pablo González has joined the roster of the London-based agency Maestro Arts, where he will be represented by Jordi Martín Mont and Callum Langford.
Hailing originally from Oviedo, Spain, González studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He first came to prominence when he won the Donatella Flick and Cadaqués International Conducting competitions.
Between 2010 and 2015, González was Music Director of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya. He has also previously Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra of the City of Granada.
He has made guest conducting appearances with The Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, Dresden Philharmonic, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Helsinki Philharmonic, Lahti Symphony, Residentie Orkest, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Bilbao Symphony, and the Galicia Symphony.
González is also a trained actor, and studied this craft at the Academy Drama School in London, among other drama training.
"It’s very important to bear in mind the background of the audience," González said of his approach to programming. "In places where programming has been conservative, and you want to change that, you have to go step by step, because people are paying money for a ticket and they have their preferences. You need to be daring and bold, but also aware of whom you are addressing."
"It’s important to believe in your ideas in order to be able to inspire people," he continued. "Of course you must have talent, technique and all the qualities that make a conductor, but you must also believe in your ideas and share your enthusiasm in a way that makes people want to go with you. For me, this belief comes out of two things: love for what I do, which is my motivation, and, of course, hard work. But it’s the utmost admiration and respect for the composer that makes you want to do something special, and if you manage to do it, you bring people with you."
