1740 Lorenzo Carcassi Violin and Bows Stolen in London
The instrument and bows inside a black case were stolen in Canonbury, London, on February 18, 2025
Violinist David López Ibáñez, who is a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra, has reported the theft of his violin and three bows near his home in Canonbury, London Borough of Islington.
The instrument and bows were stolen at 7:30 PM on February 18, 2025, and were packed in a black Riboni Unoeotto case with no pocket.
Crafted in 1740 by Lorenzo Carcassi in Florence, López Ibáñez’s violin has a distinctive heart-shaped hole in the back of the scroll.
The stolen bows are an Morizot frères bow (unlabelled), a Dodd bow with a mother of pearl tip, and a carbon fiber violin bow.
The Crime Reference Number for the theft case is 01/7178074/25; CCTV footage also exists of the thief’s appearance.
