Student Musicians Organize Benefit Concert in Support of Maui
Harmony for Healing's benefit concert for Maui will be live-streamed on September 9, featuring musicians from The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music
Harmony for Healing, an organization founded by young musicians Susanna Bobbs and Bethany Bobbs, has organized a live-streamed benefit concert in aid of those affected by the devastating wildfires in Maui.
The twins, who are studying music at Northwestern University and The Juilliard School respectively, originally founded the non-profit organization to support artists who were without their usual income during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After raising $5,000 in a single concert, they realized that music could act as a powerful tool for humanitarian aid, and went on to organize another concert — which yielded more than $10,000 towards medical aid following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The pair have now turned their attention to the recent wildfires in Maui, some of which have not yet been contained. At least six people have died, with hundreds more still missing and communities devastated.
Harmony for Healing's benefit concert will be streamed live on YouTube on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 7 PM EST. It will feature musicians from The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and 100% of donations received will go directly to Maui United Way.
"We firmly believe that anyone can make a difference through creativity and compassion," Susanna Bobbs said. "With our musical talent and philanthropic mindset, we will continue to stand for those in need and do our part to help the world heal through harmony. "
The concert will be available to watch on Harmony for Healing's YouTube channel. You can also find information on the organization's Facebook page.
